Abstract
Library information resources are vital tools in academic libraries. The success of a library depends on its resources and the utilization of these resources. This study examines how information seeking behavior influences the use of Library information resources by the undergraduate students of Adeleke University in Osun, State. In Nigeria today, it is no more news about the incident of low patronage, dwindling use of Library information resources and non-availability of relevant information resources for undergraduates of many universities and other institutions of higher learning. The study is necessary to assess the level of satisfaction of use of Library resources available to the undergraduates of the University that will sustain the success of quality of learning, acquisition of knowledge and scholarship. The study adopted a Survey Research Design. A student population of 2919 were drawn from the six existing faculties of the University including: Faculty of Arts, Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences, Faculty of Business and Social Sciences, Faculty of Engineering, Faculty of Law as well as the Faculty of Sciences. The sample size for the study was 231. A self-structured Questionnaire was used for data collection. The Questionnaire consisted of five stages including data on searching, browsing, monitoring, verifying and differentiation. Data collected was subjected to descriptive and inferential statistical analysis such as mean, frequency, regression analysis. The Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) was used for data analysis. The result revealed that information seeking behaviour significantly influenced the use of library resources by undergraduates in Adeleke University. (P<0.05).In conclusion, information seeking behavior had a positive influence on the level at which undergraduate students use library information resources.
