IMPACT OF JOB BURNOUT ON JOB PERFORMANCE AMONG POLYTECHNIC LIBRARY PERSONNEL IN OGUN STATE, NIGERIA

Abstract

The study examined the impact of job burnout on polytechnic library personnel job performance polytechnic libraries in Ogun State, Nigeria. The study used a survey research design. The population of the study was 220 library personnel from 11 polytechnic libraries in Ogun State, Nigeria. The total enumeration was employed. The study found that the job performance of library personnel in polytechnics in Ogun State, Nigeria was high ( x̅ =3.19). The level of job burnout of library personnel in polytechnics in Ogun State, Nigeria, was high (x̅= 3.06). The result further revealed the contribution of job burnout indicators to librarians’ job performance. The result showed that emotional exhaustion (β = 0.812, t = 8.407, p < 0.05), professional efficacy (β = 0.719, t = -7.911, p < 0.05), and cynicism (β = -0.948, t = -5.307, p > 0.05) (𝑅2 = 0.891, Adj. R2 = 0.756), were found to have a significant influence on job performance. The study concluded that job burnout influenced polytechnic library personnel’s job performance in Ogun State, Nigeria.
