Abstract

This study investigates the role of parental social support and school climate as determinants of school attendance among senior secondary school students. The aim is to understand how these factors influence students' attendance patterns and contribute to their overall educational outcomes. The study adopts a quantitative research design and employs a survey questionnaire as the primary data collection tool. The participants are senior secondary school students from various schools, and their parents or guardians.

The study explores the relationship between parental social support and school attendance, considering various dimensions of parental involvement, including emotional support, academic support, and communication with the school. Additionally, it examines the impact of school climate on students' attendance by considering factors such as safety, discipline, teacher-student relationships, and peer interactions.

Data analysis involves descriptive statistics to determine the strength and significance of the relationships between the variables. The findings of the study provide insights into the importance of parental social support and school climate in shaping students' attendance behaviours.

The results indicate that higher levels of parental social support, including emotional support, academic support, and effective communication with the school, are associated with better school attendance rates among senior secondary school students. Additionally, a positive school climate characterized by a safe and supportive learning environment, positive teacher-student relationships, and healthy peer interactions is significantly related to improved attendance outcomes.

This study has practical implications for educators, parents, and policymakers. It highlights the importance of fostering parental involvement and supportive school environments to promote regular school attendance. By understanding the factors that influence attendance patterns, interventions can be developed to enhance students' engagement, motivation, and overall academic success.
