Abstract
Many organizations including universities fail or collapse because of their inability to meet expected results to achieve. Achieving results not only depends on monetary and infrastructural investments, but also depends on communication and the leadership of these organizations. This study examined the extent to which leadership communication predicts university employees’ motivation, compliance with rules and regulations, and achievement of set goals. The study adopted a descriptive survey. The population consisted of employees of two universities – 1 public university in Lagos State, and 1 private university in Ogun State. A sample of 606 employees from the two universities was selected using 20% proportional sampling technique. A multistage sampling technique was used to select the sample of the study. Questionnaire was used to collect data. Results revealed the significant influence of leadership communication on employee’s motivation, compliance with rules, and achievement of organizational goals. The study concluded that leadership communication is a significant predictor of employees’ motivation, compliance, and achievement of organizational goals. It recommended that leaders of higher education institutions as well as other organizations need to consider the importance of effective communication to be able to achieve their institutional goals.
