QUALITY OF FAMILY PLANNING SERVICES IN TWO TEACHING HOSPITALS IN IBADAN, OYO STATE, NIGERIA

Abstract

The study was aimed at assessing the quality of family planning services in two teaching hospitals in Ibadan adopting a quantitative descriptive cross-sectional survey on the concept of Donabedian Model. Data was collected from 160 women of reproductive age and family planning providers. Result indicates that the quality of family planning (FP) between University College Hospital and Adeoyo Maternity Teaching Hospital is not statistically different in terms of structures and methods of service rendered. The overall waiting time on different categories of staff rendering FP services was rated 68.0% adequate for UCH and 64.5% for AMTH. Clients outcome was based on satisfaction of assurance, empathy, and responsiveness between the UCH and the AMTH with mean score 4.8±2.9 vs 6.0 ±2.2, 4.7±2.4 vs 6.0 ±2.3. and 5.6±2.8vs6.0±2.3. The study concluded that there was high satisfaction in the quality of family planning services received by respondents. Waiting time was higher in UCH than AMTH.
