Abstract

Negligence in all its forms are a daily reality for many Nigerian children and only a fraction ever receive help. Six out of every 10 children experience some form of sexual abuse, depression, aggression, early substance abuse, and low self-esteem…and 10 per cent of boys have been victims of sexual violence. Hence, this study investigate psychosocial implication of parental negligence on the boy child in Ikenne local government area, Ogun State Nigeria. This study employed qualitative method, is based on the disciplines of social sciences like psychology, sociology, and anthropology. Therefore, the qualitative research methods allow for in-depth and further probing and questioning of respondents based on their responses, where the interviewer/researcher also tries to understand their motivation and feelings. Assessment was done in various studies to authenticate the study on psychosocial implication of parental negligence on the boy child. The findings shows that parental negligence on the boy children can lead to a wide range of hostile consequences for them. The study conclude that child neglect can have a devastating impact on a person’s life, even after they have left their childhood years behind and recommend that efforts should be made to create more and better social amenities for boy children to safeguard their inabilities while showing them affection and attention. Qualified and experienced employees should be employed by the institutions, schools to take charge of the affairs of the boy children that are experiencing parental negligence.
