THE IMPACT OF POVERTY AND UNEMPLOYMENT OF YOUTH IN THE CHURCH IN NIGERIA

Abstract

A country like Nigeria that has over 57% of its population as youths even rich in human and with good mineral resources, yet the level of youth unemployment continues to go high and it pose serious socio-economic, political, and spiritual threats to the church. In recent time, youth unemployment which has led to poverty is a major socio-economic, political even religion problem in Nigeria because it involves the lack of resources and income, as well as an increase in criminalized and deviant in Christ-like behavior. Hence the study examine the impact of poverty and unemployment of youth in the church. The methodology used in this article was survey and assessment. It finds out that the church has great impact in solving the menace of youth unemployment and poverty, due to the effect of political instability and corruption in the country and in one way or the other is affecting the church of God. In concluding, the implication of the youth unemployment and poverty in the church has made some of the youth in the church to be engaged in fraudulent act (YAHOO), stealing, dishonesty, crime etc. Meanwhile, the Nigerian youths of today have great potentials. The study recommend that the government and the church should invest more in the areas that will develop the youth which will automatically give strength to the nation’s political, economic, social issues, solidify their relationship with God and church welfare even their full participation in the church.
