INFLUENCE OF RECRUITMENT AND SELECTION PRACTICE ON QUALITY EDUCATION DELIVERY AMONG TEACHERS IN SELECTED SECONDARY SCHOOLS ABEOKUTA SOUTH OGUN STATE, NIGERIA.

Abstract

Quality educational delivery is essential for the growth and development of any nation as it ensures that students receive the best possible education needed to foster the development of their skills, knowledge and creativity. Hence, different measures such as parental involvement, integration of technological facilities, and implementation of rigorous academic standards among others have been put in place. Despite this, it is observed that the quality of educational delivery among secondary school teachers in Abeokuta may not have been as expected due to due to poor recruitment and selection practice, which has led to decline in academic achievement, teaching effectiveness, student engagement and teacher quality. Therefore, this study examined the influence of recruitment and selection practice on quality education delivery among secondary school teachers in Abeokuta South in Ogun State.

A survey research design was adopted. Two hundred and thirty two (232) respondents were estimated and participated in this study. All questionnaires were distributed, adequately filled and used in the analysis. Simple stratified sampling technique was employed for the select sample size from the population of the study. The information collected from the respondents were sorted, coded, and entered in datasheet created in the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS). Descriptive statistics of frequency distribution mean and standard deviation was used to analyze the data and provide answers to the research questions. Simple linear regression analysis was used to test the hypotheses at 5 percent level of significance (α = 0.05) using the SPSS 25 version software.

The study showed that recruitment and selection practice has a negative significant influence on quality education delivery in secondary schools in Abeokuta South local government area of Ogun state (R2= 0.038, β= -0. 196, t = -3.025, p<0.05).

The study concluded that recruitment and selection practice has a significant influence on quality education delivery among secondary school teachers in Abeokuta South local government area of Ogun state, Nigeria. Recruitment and selection practice has a significant influence on teaching efficiency within educational institutions. By implementing effective recruitment and selection processes, providing adequate training opportunities, establishing goof promotion standards, offering fair compensation and rewards, managing workload, and fostering a supportive organizational culture to enhance quality education delivery.
