Teachers’ Traits and Delivery of Entrepreneurship Education in Junior Secondary Schools in Rivers State.

Abstract

The study investigated teachers’ traits and delivery of Entrepreneurship Education in Junior Secondary Schools in Rivers State. Two research questions and two hypotheses were formulated for the study. The design adopted for the study was the correlational design. The population of the study was the 12,606 teachers in the 203 public junior secondary schools in the 23 Local Government Areas of Rivers State, out of which 388 were sampled for the study. Data for the study was collected through two 60- item questionnaires titled “Teachers’ Traits Questionnaire (TTQ) and Delivery of Entrepreneurship Education Questionnaire (DEEQ)”. The questionnaire was validated and the reliability index was 0.76 and 0.73 using simple regression was used to answer the research questions while t-test associated with simple regression was used to test the hypotheses at 0.05 level of significance. The findings of the study revealed among others that there is a significant relationship between teachers’ enthusiasm and delivery of entrepreneurship education in junior secondary schools in Rivers State. Also, that there is a significant relationship between teachers’ empathy and delivery of entrepreneurship education in junior secondary schools in Rivers State. Based on the findings, the study recommended that teachers in public junior secondary schools in Rivers State should show concern and be affectionate towards students by asking them questions and listening to them in order to sustain the delivery of entrepreneurship education. They should also show commitment and be passionate about their job in public junior secondary schools in Rivers State.
