Abstract

This study examined the availability and use of community resources in teaching Social Studies in secondary schools in Ondo West Local Government Area of Ondo State. Community recourses is a situation through which learners come into first hand contact with people, places and all things around them, it including visiting organizations, institutions and neighborhoods or regions of the community. A descriptive research method was adopted. A sample of 120 students was drawn from a target population of secondary school students in Ondo. Data was collected using questionnaires were used to collect data from students. Information was collected from four secondary schools in Ondo West. Descriptive statistics in form of mean standard deviation were used to analyzed data. Major finding of this study were that community resources were not regularly used in Ondo West Local Government secondary schools due to constraints of time, finance etc. The study also revealed that the respondents were conversant with community resources. From the findings teachers should try as much as possible to use community resources in teaching Social Studies. This would improve the quality of instruction materials in schools and ensure students active involvement in life-like learning activities.
