INFLUENCE OF PHYSICAL FACILITY ON MORAL INTENT OF STUDENTS IN SELECTED SECONDARY SCHOOLS IKENNE LOCAL GOVERNMENT OGUN STATE, NIGERIA

Abstract

In Nigeria, moral conduct of students is an important issue as it affects the academic performance, the behaviour of students in their daily lives, and the overall reputation of the national education system. Therefore the main objective of this study was to investigate the influence of physical facility on moral intent of studenss in selected secondary schools Ikenne Local Government, Ogun State, Nigeria.

This research used the survey research design and quantitative data was collected. The population of this study comprised of 2,257 students from six selected public secondary schools in Ikenne Local Government; Ogun State Nigeria. A sample size of 340 was determined using Taro Yamane formula. A structured questionnaire was used for data collection.

The findings of this study shows that physical facility has a significant influence on moral intent of students in selected secondary schools in  Ikenne Local Government Ogun State (r = 0.388, Adr2 = 0.382, p < 0.05).School environment  has a significant influence on the moral reasoning of students in selected secondary schools Ikenne Local Government Ogun State (r = 0.437, Adr2 = 0.432, p < 0.05). A positive school environment, characterized by a culture of ethical behavior, supportive relationships, positive peer influence, clear expectations, and moral education, can promote the moral intent and conduct of students. This study concluded that the school environment can have a profound influence on the moral intent and conduct of students. Schools should strive to create a positive environment that emphasizes ethical behavior, respect, kindness, and honesty. This can be achieved by involving students, teachers, and parents in developing and implementing the school's values and norms.
