Abstract
This paper focuses on the impact of Goethe Institut, the German cultural Centre since its establishment in Nigeria in 1962. The examination focuses on socio-cultural enclaves, which are the primary fields of operation of the institute. The socio-cultural enclaves include education, music, theatre and visual arts. The main goal of this intellectual discourse centres on one question: What are the impacts of the Goethe-Institut in the Nigerian-German relations as a soft power foreign policy instrument? Providing an answer to this question is crucial, as it would enable us to understand the impact of cultural institutions on Nigerian-German relations. Published literature and oral interviews, which are secondary and primary sources, served as methodologies employed in the writing of this paper. The outcome of this investigation revealed that Goethe-Institut as a soft power foreign policy of Germany, has achieved and keeps achieving tremendous results in its dual objectives of promoting German language and culture abroad; and achieving international cultural cooperation in Nigeria.
