Abstract
Employee attitude is critical to the success and performance of an insurance company. However, the insurance industry has been struggling with notably poor employee attitudes, which is an increasing concern. Employees in this sector frequently experience high stress levels due to demanding workloads, complex regulations, and a competitive market. This decline in attitude highlights the necessity for an effective management style. Consequently, this study explored the impact of management style on employee attitudes in selected insurance companies in Lagos State, Nigeria. The study adopted a survey research design. The target population for this study is comprised of 1,543 management employees from five insurance businesses in Lagos State, Nigeria. A sample size of 418 was determined using Research Advisors sample table. Data was collected using a structured and validated questionnaire with a Cronbach’s alpha ranging from 0.75 to 0.89. A response rate of 92.1% was recorded. Data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential ( regression analsis) statistics at 5% significance level. The findings revealed that management style had positive and significant effect on employee attitude of selected Insurance Firms in Lagos State, Nigeria (Adj.R2= 0.338, F(4, 382) = 242.920, p<0.05). The study concluded that management style improved employee attitude of selected Insurance Firms in Lagos State, Nigeria. Therefore, the study recommended that Insurance firms adopt participatory management styles that involve employees in decision-making processes, recognize and reward their contributions, and provide opportunities for professional development. Implementing these strategies would enhance employee engagement, reduce turnover rates, and ultimately improve organisational performance.
