Abstract

Family planning is the ability of individuals and couples to attain their desired number of children, regulate the interval between pregnancies (child spacing), control the time at which birth occurs and determine the number of children they give birth to using various contraceptives methods. Although, studies have linked attitude and intention to use family planning, negative attitude towards family planning reduces the intention to use family planning among women. Thus, this study aimed at discovering the influence of Education and Occupational type on the attitude of women towards family planning.

A survey research design was utilized for this study and the population was 380 residents of Ikenne Local Government Area of Ogun state. The study adopted the simple random approach and a well-structured questionnaire for data collection.

The study showed that level of education and occupation type significantly influences the attitude of Ikenne Local Government women towards family planning. R=0.283; R2 =0.080; Adj R2 =0.072; F (3, 373) = 10.784; p< 0.05 provided evidence for the influence of Education and Occupational Type on the Attitude of women in Ikenne LGA towards Family Planning. The study concluded that Education and occupational type, have a positive influence on attitude of women towards Family Planning. The study further found that education at all forms was instrumental on the attitude of women towards family planning. This recommended that improvement in level of education of women in Ikenne Local Government would enhance their attitude towards family planning. Hence, increased education among older women in Ikenne Local Government would lead to better attitude towards family planning.
