Abstract

Bacon is one of the prominent philosophers of science in the 17th century who came up with a scientific method called Novum Organum, new tools in investigating natural occurrences in the universe. It is an empiricist idea of investigating phenomenon against the background of Aristotle’s Organum. Aristotle’s Organum is a scientific method based on reasoning that does not contradict the religious order of around 13th century. Bacon was of the opinion that separating science from religion will evolve science and this took effect fully during Bacon’s era. This work revolves around Aristotle and Bacon’s scientific method. It explores the relevance of science, anticipated flaws in Bacon’s scientific method, analysis, and scientific method during Aristotle period.

This paper employs both historical and analytical methods. The historical method gives detailed on how Bacon came about with his deductive method while analytical method illustrates vivid analyses of his Novum Organum.  The analytical approach will help in giving the detailed and useful explanation of Bacon’s scientific method.

This study has shown that Bacon’s scientific method was not free from human errors which he described as idols. In the contemporary period, there are many anticipated flaw in Bacon’s scientific tools. As man is fallible in nature and is prone to make error, man cannot be free from his idols (error) because of the deception in our sensory perception of nature.

The study contributes to knowledge that science helps in human development, for us to have adequate knowledge of scientific method; we have to be sound in acquiring scientific knowledge that can help us individually and collectively to deduce right thinking from false thinking.
