DIGITAL BANKING IN NIGERIA: ISSUES AND CHALLENGES

Abstract

Banking sector is an integral part of the incorporated and unincorporated companies all over the world. The banking activities cover the entire sectors of life. As a result, banking sector is very central to human endeavors. Hence, digital banking also known as e- banking or online or international banking is an electronic payment system that allows bank customers, other financial institutions to engage and conduct a range of financial transactions through the financial institutions world wide web (w.w.w). However, the main focus of this article is to examine the digital revolution going on in the banking sector in Nigeria and outside her shores. The methodology used for gathering data in this paper was analytical and essentially library based. The study also analyzed the success it has achieved and the challenges facing the digital total revolution such as infrastructural inadequacies, dearth of qualified ICT professionals and equally proffered likely solutions to the identified problems faced by the bank customers. In that wise, the following, recommendations are germane to the digital revolution in Nigeria, legal framework for digital revolution, training and development of qualified professionals and also promotion of basic infrastructural facilities that will drive digital revolution in Nigeria.
